Minister Yumaklı announced: The fire in Çanakkale has been brought under control!

Forest fires that broke out yesterday evening in the Sarıcaeli neighborhood of Çanakkale and the Bayramiç district spread rapidly due to the wind. While the fire in the center of Çanakkale was largely brought under control, the flames in Bayramiç continued throughout the night.

Due to the fire, 785 people were evacuated, and 24 people were affected by smoke. Additionally, four villages were completely cleared, and many houses became unusable.

Against the fires, 900 personnel and 20 aircraft intervened intensively from the ground and air to prevent the fire from spreading. While cooling efforts continue in the region, teams worked throughout the night to bring the fire completely under control.

THE STRAIT OPENED TO ONE-WAY TRAFFIC

Due to the fire, the Dardanelles (Çanakkale Strait) was opened to one-way traffic for safety reasons. 4 suspects have been detained in connection with the fire in Çanakkale, and an investigation has been launched.

FIRE IN BAYRAMİÇ UNDER CONTROL

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that the fire in Bayramiç has also been brought under control. In a statement made via Twitter, Minister Yumaklı said, "With the uninterrupted intervention of our forest heroes throughout the night, the progress of the fire has been stopped. The fires have been largely brought under control, and cooling efforts from the air and ground are continuing."
