Ministry issues extreme heat warning: Do not go out during these hours
The Ministry of Health has issued a warning that scorching summer heat can threaten health, advising citizens, especially those in high-risk groups, to take precautions.
With the arrival of summer and the resulting increase in temperatures, the Ministry of Health has published an informational notice containing important warnings for citizens.
The statement pointed out that water consumption is of great importance, especially on days when temperature and humidity rise together, and included the following remarks:
“Increasing temperatures and rising humidity levels during the summer months can lead to serious health problems, especially for the elderly, pregnant women, children, and individuals with chronic illnesses. For this reason, it is of vital importance that those in high-risk groups remain cautious against extreme heat. It is possible to significantly reduce the risk with simple measures such as preventing fluid loss, protection from the sun, balanced nutrition, and staying in cool environments.”
In its statement, the Ministry noted that heatstroke is common during the summer months and stated that extreme heat and high humidity lead to a loss of water and minerals in the body, which can disrupt the body's heat balance and cause serious health problems.
It was emphasized that when symptoms such as high fever, headache, nausea, confusion, dizziness, or shortness of breath occur, individuals should be urgently moved to a cool environment and then taken to the nearest healthcare facility.
"CONSUMPTION OF TEA, COFFEE, AND CARBONATED DRINKS SHOULD BE LIMITED"
The statement pointed out that the body loses a significant amount of water and minerals due to sweating in hot weather, and that this situation can lead to risky conditions such as weakness and fainting. For this reason, it is recommended to drink at least 2.5 to 3 liters of water daily. Furthermore, it was advised to limit the consumption of tea, coffee, and carbonated drinks, which can increase fluid loss, and to prefer drinks such as mineral water and ayran instead.
"DO NOT GO OUT BETWEEN 11:00 AND 16:00"
Warnings were also issued regarding the hours when the sun's effect is felt most intensely. It was stated that one should not go out, especially between 11:00 and 16:00, and it was reminded that if it is necessary to go out during these hours, protective measures against the sun must be taken.
While the use of wide-brimmed hats, UV-filtered sunglasses, and sunscreen is recommended, it was noted that light-colored, cotton, and loose clothing should be preferred. It was emphasized that the ambient temperature should be kept between 24–27 degrees, and it was stated that ventilating homes and workplaces during the morning and evening hours would be beneficial.
"MEALS SHOULD BE CONSUMED IN SMALL PORTIONS AND AT FREQUENT INTERVALS"
It was stated that a dietary adjustment suitable for summer heat should also be made. Pointing out that the digestive system works more slowly during this period, the statement expressed that heavy and fatty foods should be avoided, and that increasing the consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits would be a healthy choice.
While it is recommended to eat in small portions and at frequent intervals, it was advised to consume foods with high water content such as watermelon and melon.
"INTENSE PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES SHOULD BE AVOIDED"
Drawing attention to the fact that intense exercise in hot weather can negatively affect heart health, it was emphasized that sports activities should be performed early in the morning or in the cool of the evening. It was also reminded that sufficient water should be consumed before, during, and after exercise.
