New record in global ocean surface temperature
The daily average temperature of the global ocean surface broke the 2023 record in March, reaching 21.2 degrees, the "highest temperature ever recorded."
According to data from the University of Maine's Climate Reanalyzer and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), global warming has also led to an increase in ocean surface temperatures.
According to the data, while the highest ocean temperature in 2023 was measured at 21.1 degrees in August, the ocean surface temperature record was broken this year in March with 21.2 degrees.
GREENHOUSE GAS WILL INTENSIFY
NOAA marine scientist Gregory C. Johnson stated in an interview with CNN that the average global ocean temperature measured in 2023 was 0.25 degrees higher than in 2022, and that this increase is equivalent to experiencing 20 years of warming in a single year.
Johnson expressed that they expect these record temperatures to continue to be recorded as the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere increases.
