Onlookers were amazed: He has documented 380 species of birds he has been curious about since childhood

Having raised his own pigeons until university, Mehmet Ünlü decided to observe birds in nature after being inspired by posts on a website during his early years as a primary school teacher.

First, Ünlü bought a pair of binoculars and began following the birds he observed, trekking across mountains and hills in Kars, where he started his teaching career.

His interest in birds, which began as a hobby, gradually became professional. Ünlü has photographed 380 of the bird species found in Turkey, a country he has traveled across every corner of, and has also captured footage of some and recorded the sounds of others.

Ünlü stated that he has been curious about birds for years and has observed their behavior whenever he found the opportunity.

Stating that birdwatching is important, Ünlü noted the following:

"While observing, we first identify the bird with binoculars. We try to get as close to the bird as possible by wearing camouflage clothing. We take its photograph. I observe birds in their own natural habitats. I identify their behaviors, movements, or which species they are. First, you get to know the birds by their local names.

In later years, you buy guidebooks and look at the birds through them. Feather structure, beak, feet, tail, and wings are the most important morphological features of a bird. I try to identify the bird based on these morphological features. When I cannot figure it out, I get support from friends."
