Research findings announced: Which world-famous brands cause the most plastic pollution?

Researchers from Dalhousie University in Canada have examined the brands that cause the most plastic pollution in the world.

The study, published in the journal Science Advances, was prepared using plastic pollution audits and data from 84 countries between 2018 and 2022.

The study stated that for nearly half of the waste examined, it was not clear "which company produced it," while among the waste with identified sources, Coca-Cola was recorded as causing 11 percent and PepsiCo 5 percent of the plastic pollution among world-famous brands.

The global brands causing plastic pollution were followed by Nestle and Danone with 3 percent each, and Altria with 2 percent.

These companies account for nearly 25 percent of the identified waste.

Researcher Tony Walker stated, "These firms are some of the largest companies in the world and they have access to every country in the world."
