Sakarya in flames! Fire spreads to residential areas: Houses burning

A fire that started in a forested area near Hacılar neighbourhood in the Geyve district of Sakarya caused panic. The fire, whose cause has not yet been determined, spread rapidly. As the flames reached residential areas, the Taşoluk and Hacılar neighbourhoods were evacuated as a precaution.

FLAMES REACH HOMES

As the advance of the fire could not be halted, it was reported that some houses in Taşoluk neighbourhood, which the flames had reached, were burning. A large number of firefighting units and Forest Management Directorate teams were dispatched to the area. Aerial and ground interventions are continuing intensively. Search and Rescue (CAK) teams also joined the firefighting operations in the area.

AGRICULTURAL AREAS ALSO AT RISK

Not only forested areas but also the surrounding agricultural land to which the fire has spread are under threat. Due to the rapid advance of the fire, a large portion of cultivated fields has been put at risk.

RESIDENTS INTERVENE WITH THEIR OWN HANDS

Some of the evacuated neighbourhood residents mobilised to support the firefighting crews. While farmers attempted to slow the fire's advance with their tractors, some residents also joined the response by transporting water to the area with water tankers.
