Signature campaign against urban transformation law

In a statement made by the Istanbul Bar Association, it was stated, "We expect support from our colleagues and all citizens for the protection of the freedom of property, housing, living in a healthy environment, and the right to seek justice, and for the cancellation or amendment by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) of these legal regulations that are contrary to the Constitution."

The statement included the following expressions:

"The 'Law on the Amendment of the Law on the Transformation of Areas Under Disaster Risk and Certain Laws and Decree-Law No. 375,' numbered 7471 and published in the Official Gazette on November 9, 2023, is contrary to fundamental rights and the Constitution.

According to the Attorneyship Law, the Istanbul Bar Association is obligated to protect and ensure the functionality of human rights. In this context;

With the amendments made by Law No. 7471, the administration has gained the right to seize citizens' immovable property entirely at its own initiative, disregarding the right to property. These amendments, which deprive citizens of an effective and real right to legal recourse, will further increase the grievances of citizens in the current situation.

We expect support from our colleagues and all citizens for the protection of the freedom of property, housing, living in a healthy environment, and the right to seek justice, and for the cancellation or amendment by the TBMM of these legal regulations that are contrary to the Constitution.
