The danger awaiting Sakarya and Kocaeli: Lake Sapanca is sounding the alarm

Lake Sapanca, which was covered in water until two months ago, has begun to shrink as air temperatures rise and the impact of rainfall decreases.

Grassy areas are now visible along the shores of Lake Sapanca, one of the most important water sources for Sakarya and Kocaeli.

BELOW CRITICAL LEVEL

According to the report on NTV, Kocaeli experienced its driest period in the last 50 years during June and July.

Air temperatures remained above seasonal norms.

The occupancy rate of the Yuvacık Dam was recorded at 48 percent in the latest measurements.

As the water level in the Namazgah Dam also fell below the desired level, water began to be drawn from Lake Sapanca. For this reason, the lake has started to recede.

The current water level in Lake Sapanca is at 31.12 meters.

Local residents are calling for increased measures against the drought.
