The people of İkizköy kept watch for their forests even during the holiday

Limak Holding and İÇTAŞ’s joint project, the YK Energy thermal power plant in Milas, Muğla, continues to face the determination of villagers who are working to protect the Akbelen Forest, which is being destroyed to provide fuel for the plant.

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, the village residents, who continue their watch to ensure that olive groves and agricultural lands within the company's mining license area are not sacrificed for coal, spent the Ramadan Feast at the watch site.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Despite a closure order, mining operations are being carried out in many parts of Milas to provide coal for the YK Energy thermal power plant, which continues to operate.

The companies, which hold a 23 thousand hectare license in the region, also carried out work in the Akbelen Forest last summer despite all objections.

The villagers living in the region have been pursuing a legal process for five years and keeping watch for 2 years to protect their forests.
