The toll of forest fires revealed

The Institute for Social Studies has released striking data regarding the forest fires that have occurred in Turkey over the last month. The institute reported that fires between June 27 and July 28, 2025, destroyed nearly 90 thousand hectares of forest land. This area is exactly 21 times the size of Esenyurt, Turkey's most populous district.

THE AREA OF THE FIRES IS EQUIVALENT TO 12 THOUSAND 752 FOOTBALL FIELDS

In the analysis conducted by the institute, attention was drawn to the scale of the burned forest area. 90 thousand hectares is equivalent to 12 thousand 752 football fields. This stands out as an indicator of the magnitude of the disaster caused by the forest fires in Turkey.

TURKEY HAS THE LOWEST BUDGET FOR FIRE FIGHTING IN EUROPE

The research by the Institute for Social Studies stated that the share of the budget allocated for firefighting in Turkey within the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is at the lowest level in Europe. Furthermore, it was emphasized that Turkey is the country with the most burned area among Mediterranean countries in the last month.
