Scientists have announced that 'Taam Ja', discovered off the coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula in 2021, is the world's deepest blue hole at 420 meters.
Scientists have conducted new measurements at 'Taam Ja', which they had previously identified last year as the world's second-deepest blue hole.
According to the findings, the depth of 'Taam Ja' was determined to be at least 420 meters, revealing a difference of at least 146 meters between the first and second measurements.
With this, "Taam Ja" has surpassed the Dragon Hole in the South China Sea, which is 301 meters deep, to take the top spot.
It is believed that 'Taam Ja' is connected to a labyrinth of underwater tunnels and caves.
The blue hole was named 'Taam Ja', which means 'deep water' in the Mayan language.
