Public in Turgutreis reacts upon hearing Cengiz Holding's name: 'They will destroy the sunset beaches'

Following reports that Cengiz Holding would take over the construction of the Coast Guard Port in Turgutreis, citizens protesting the project expressed their outrage. Local residents, who were already protesting because the construction damages the natural texture of the region, voiced their objections upon hearing the claims that Cengiz Holding would take over the project.

In the Bodrum district of Muğla, the public held a protest against the Turgutreis Coast Guard Port construction. Local residents and environmental activists participated in the protest, which took place one month after the construction began.

Tensions rose during the protest over allegations that the port would be transferred to Cengiz Holding once completed. Protesters marched to the construction site and attempted to break the particleboard barriers. During this time, tense moments occurred between the gendarmerie and the citizens.

REACTION TO CENGİZ AND LİMAK

In their statement, the protesters declared that they would stand against the destruction of nature by Cengiz Holding in Turgutreis and by Limak in Kızılağaç.

TMMOB Bodrum District Coordination Board spokesperson Mustafa Erdoğan stated, 'The Turgutreis coastline is a place where millions of people come every year to watch the sunset. We could not learn who the engineer or architect of this port is, but Cengiz Holding appeared before us. They are coming to destroy the sunset beaches.'

Although they were unable to enter the construction site, the protesters marched with tambourines in their hands to Turgutreis Atatürk Square, 500 meters away, and concluded the protest.
