The impact of inflation, particularly on food products, has been laid bare once again. According to a report compiled by Deniz Ayhan from Sözcü, Erdoğan, who last visited the Kırkkonaklar neighborhood market in Ankara 21 years ago in 2004—the second year of the AKP government—had spent 26 liras in the currency of that day.

Today, the same shopping trip has increased 40-fold to 1,044 TL. Speaking to Sözcü, CHP Deputy Chairman Burhanettin Bulut stated that President Erdoğan has brought the economy to the edge of a cliff, adding that he has become disconnected from the public and can no longer go out among the citizens.

'PRICES ARE QUITE GOOD'

On May 27, 2004, after attending the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK) presidents' meeting, Erdoğan visited the neighborhood market set up in the Kırkkonaklar Çukurca Birlik neighborhood. Accompanied by the then-Minister of Industry and Trade Ali Coşkun, Erdoğan purchased 1 kilogram of strawberries, 2 kilograms of cucumbers, 3 cartons of eggs, 2 kilograms of plums, 1 kilogram of onions, a 5-kilogram watermelon, and 10 simits.

When asked, “Are the prices high?”, Erdoğan had replied, “They are quite good.” Twenty-one years have passed, inflation has skyrocketed, and prices have soared. If Erdoğan were to go to the same market today and buy the same quantities of the same products, he would pay 1,044 liras.
