2nd Newborn gang scandal... Suspicious baby death in Zeytinburnu! Allegations that the hospital was inadequate
While the repercussions of the Newborn Gang scandal continue, a baby named Hamza Taşdemir died under suspicious circumstances at a private hospital in Zeytinburnu. The Taşdemir family has filed a criminal complaint against the hospital and called for justice.
Before Turkey has even forgotten the Newborn Gang scandal, it has been shaken once again by a suspicious baby death in Istanbul's Zeytinburnu district. Feride and Alaaddin Taşdemir applied to a private hospital in the district on January 16 for the birth of their 4th child.
Following the birth, which was performed via cesarean section, the family was informed that the baby's health was good. However, the baby, named Hamza, passed away one day later.
It was stated that baby Hamza had no health problems after birth; he was breastfed by his mother, and no issues were observed during doctor check-ups. Father Alaaddin Taşdemir stated, “Hamza was born perfectly healthy. The mother was breastfeeding the baby, and there were no problems. Discharge procedures had been initiated.”
On January 17, during the discharge process, mother Feride Taşdemir requested one final examination. At that time, it was noticed that the baby was experiencing respiratory distress, and he was taken to an intervention room. The family stated that baby Hamza was kept in the intervention room for 4 hours and that they were not provided with any information during this process.
REQUESTED TO BE TRANSFERRED
The hospital management wanted to transfer the baby to another private hospital. However, when it was realized that baby Hamza had passed away, the hospital he was to be transferred to refused to accept him. Following this, the Taşdemir family was informed that their baby had lost his life.
ALLEGATION THAT THE HOSPITAL WAS INADEQUATE
Father Alaaddin Taşdemir argued that the hospital's conditions were inadequate:
“They said they would transfer our child to another hospital. But at that moment, we learned that the child had lost his life. Even the hospital's heating system was not working. We lost our baby due to a lack of equipment.”
Baby Hamza's lifeless body was sent to the Yenibosna Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy on January 18. Following the procedures, the baby's body was handed over to his family.
CRIMINAL COMPLAINT FILED
Finding their baby's death suspicious, the Taşdemir family went to the Zeytinburnu police station and filed a criminal complaint against the private hospital. The family is demanding that those responsible be identified and that justice be served.
