5 siblings had lost their lives in Selçuk, İzmir... How the fire started has been revealed!

Melisa Akcan, who lived in a single-story house in the Tavşantepe area of Cumhuriyet Neighborhood in the Selçuk district of İzmir, and whose husband Hakan Akcan is in prison for a crime, left her 5 children at home on November 11 at around 19:00 to go collect scrap metal to support her family. A short while later, a fire broke out after a heater in the house tipped over.

WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE IN SELÇUK, İZMİR?

As the flames engulfed the house in a short time, the siblings Aras Bulut Akcan (1), Masal Işık Akcan (2), Aslan Miraç Akcan (3), Funda Peri Akcan (4), and Fadime Nefes Akcan (5) were trapped inside. Upon notification by neighbors to the 112 Emergency Call Center, fire, police, and medical teams were dispatched to the address. The fire was extinguished with the intervention of the arriving fire crews.

It was determined that 3 of the 5 children removed from the house had died from smoke inhalation. The 2 injured children could not be saved despite all efforts by doctors at the hospital to which they were taken. The initial investigation into the fire revealed that the door was locked.

Melisa Akcan, who suffered a nervous breakdown from the pain of losing her children and was treated at the hospital, was taken to the police station for questioning after being discharged. Melisa Akcan was referred to the courthouse and released under judicial control. The funerals of the 5 siblings were laid to rest side by side in Acarlar Cemetery one day later.

THE CARPET IGNITED FIRST

The report prepared by the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department Fire and Emergency Response Branch regarding the fire has been revealed.

The report stated that the electric heater, which was plugged into an extension cord and running, tipped over for some reason and ignited the carpet on the floor.

It was noted that it was concluded that the fire may have started as a result of the flames spreading from there to the laminate flooring.

The report also included that the fire crews departed at 19:14 and arrived at the scene of the fire 3 minutes later, and that upon arrival, the house was seen to be burning with flames and smoke.
