A new era begins for electricity bills: Who will be affected by the subsidy decision and by how much?
Starting February 1, those who consume more than 5,000 kWh of electricity annually will transition to a non-subsidized tariff. Households exceeding 417 kWh per month will pay market prices for electricity. So, which households will this new regulation affect, and by how much? Here are the details...
The era of subsidized and non-subsidized billing for electricity consumption begins as of February 1, 2025. Subscribers who consume more than 417 kWh per month, or 5,000 kWh annually, will purchase electricity at market prices. For subscribers with low consumption, the subsidy application will continue.
WHO WILL BE ABLE TO USE SUBSIDIZED ELECTRICITY?
Households that consume less than 5,000 kWh of electricity annually will continue to benefit from the subsidized tariff. According to the statement made by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, subsidies will also continue for families of martyrs and citizens with disabilities.
WHO WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE NEW ELECTRICITY TARIFF?
Since the average household's electricity consumption is between 200-300 kWh, the system will not affect 97% of consumers. According to the new system, those paying bills over 1,050 TL will be affected by market prices.
WHAT WILL NON-SUBSIDIZED ELECTRICITY CHANGE?
According to the new tariff, after the subsidy is lifted, consumers will be able to choose the best prices on the market by making agreements with energy companies. However, if no agreement is reached, the current distribution company will continue to provide electricity to consumers at the high tariff.
WHAT IS THE AVERAGE ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION OF A FAMILY?
A family of 4 living in an average 100-square-meter house consumes 200-300 kWh of electricity per month. This consumption is at a sufficient level to benefit from the subsidized tariff. However, those who engage in luxury consumption or live in large houses will be affected by the new tariff.
This regulation may increase competition in the energy sector. Market prices will come into play for high-consumption users, and consumers will be able to choose more affordable electricity providers.
