Angry youth in the US, angered by the TikTok ban, sets fire to the building housing an anti-TikTok congressman!

According to a report by The New York Times, police in the Fond du Lac area issued a statement regarding the arson of a building where offices are located.

The statement indicated that the building housing the office rented in the name of Republican Congressman Grothman was set on fire and that a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

'YOU CANNOT SHUT DOWN TIKTOK' PROTEST

Stating that no one was in the building at the time of the incident and that the fire has been extinguished, the statement noted that the 19-year-old suspect said he set the building on fire in reaction to the debates surrounding the TikTok ban.

US media reports note that Grothman had previously used language critical of TikTok.

WHY WAS TIKTOK BANNED IN THE US?

TikTok was shut down for use in the US yesterday in accordance with a law mandating its ban if it is not sold to an American firm. In addition to TikTok, the video editing application CapCut was also blocked from access in the country.

US President-elect Donald Trump, in a statement regarding the TikTok ban on his social media platform Truth Social, said, "On Monday, I will issue an executive order extending the deadline for the provisions of the law to take effect, so that we can reach a deal to protect our national security."

Stating that companies supporting the effort to prevent TikTok from remaining banned would have no legal liability under the aforementioned executive order, Trump also noted that he wants half of TikTok to be owned by Americans.

Subsequently, TikTok resumed providing service in the country.
