Another show of support for Furkan Bölükbaşı from the AKP... Apparently, there is no crime of insulting the President
Another show of support has come from the ruling wing for Furkan Bölükbaşı, who was arrested following his social media post targeting President Erdoğan.
AKP-affiliated troll Furkan Bölükbaşı, known for his hostility toward the Republic and Atatürk, had been detained under the charge of "assassination and physical attack against the President" following a post he made about President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Bölükbaşı was subsequently arrested by the court and sent to prison.
AKP Ankara Youth Branch Vice President Lawyer Muhammed Türkoğlu expressed his reaction to Bölükbaşı's arrest in an audio recording he published on his social media account.
Stating that the crime of "threatening the President" does not exist in the Turkish Penal Code, Türkoğlu said, "If an act is not explicitly stated as a crime, you cannot punish that person."
"THERE IS NO SUCH CRIME AS THREATENING THE PRESIDENT"
Emphasizing that there is a "prohibition on expansive interpretation" in criminal law, Türkoğlu used the following expressions:
"I examined the file, and I was very surprised that it was because of this. It is called 'threatening the President.' Actually, there is no such crime in the Turkish Penal Code. There is insulting the President in the law, there is physical attack against the President, but there is no crime called threatening the President."
REACTIONS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Türkoğlu's statement caused a wide stir on social media. Some users reacted to Türkoğlu with comments such as, "Where were you when Fatih Altaylı was being arrested?"
