Attention ChatGPT users! A 20 percent tax is coming...
Starting December 1, 2024, VAT will be applied to ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI.
OpenAI paid users are facing a tax shock.
OpenAI has announced that if a tax identification number is not provided, a 20 percent VAT will be charged on invoices for its paid users starting December 1, 2024.
OpenAI cited Turkey's Value Added Tax Law No. 30656 as the reason for the 20 percent VAT deduction.
The statement included the following:
"If you pay VAT in Turkey and have a valid tax identification number, please add it to the Tax Status and ID section of your OpenAI account. If you do not provide a valid Tax ID by December 1, we will be required to charge 20 percent VAT on your invoice."
Users reacted to the decision.
