BES-AR announces hunger and poverty thresholds: Exceeded 4 times the minimum wage

The results of the June hunger and poverty threshold report prepared by the Office Workers' Union Research Center have been published.

In a statement, Özer Avanaş, Chairman of the Office Workers' Union (BES), stated that the hunger threshold for a family of four in June 2024 was 25 thousand 374 TL.

Avanaş stated that the cost of living for one person is 30 thousand 200 TL.

Avanaş noted that the poverty line, which is the total amount of mandatory monthly expenditures for food, clothing, housing (rent, electricity, water, fuel), transportation, education, health, and similar needs, is 70 thousand 253 TL.

In the research conducted for last month, the hunger threshold was calculated at 24 thousand 346 liras, the poverty threshold at 67 thousand 733 liras, and the cost of living for a single employee at 29 thousand 411 liras.

Thus, even if all family members in a 4-person household earn the minimum wage of 17 thousand 2 TL, they still remain below the poverty line.
