The best universities have been announced: 5 universities from Turkey made the list!

The 2026 World University Rankings published by Times Higher Education (THE) have revealed the world's best universities. The University of Oxford maintained its lead, taking the first spot. Oxford was followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Princeton University, respectively. Harvard University, meanwhile, fell to 5th place this year alongside Stanford University, maintaining its position in the top 5.

ONLY UK AND US UNIVERSITIES IN THE TOP 10

In the 2026 rankings, only universities from the UK and the US are in the top 10. This once again highlights the strong positions of these two countries in higher education. However, a significant achievement was also reached by Turkey this year, with a total of 4 universities finding a place in the top 500.

4 UNIVERSITIES FROM TURKEY ENTERED THE TOP 500

Among the universities that entered the top 500, Koç University ranked 301st, while Middle East Technical University (METU) and Sabancı University tied for 351st place. Boğaziçi University ranked 401st, remaining the last among the universities from Turkey to enter the top 500.

15 TURKISH UNIVERSITIES IN THE TOP 1000

In the broader top 1000 list, 15 universities from Turkey were included. In addition to Koç University, METU, Sabancı University, and Boğaziçi University, Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) placed in the 501-600 band. Bilkent University, Kadir Has University, and Yıldız Technical University found places in the 601-800 rankings.
