Certain terms used in dairy products have been banned!

A new regulation was published on November 27 by the General Directorate of Food and Control to prevent unfair competition in the food sector.

Accordingly, the use of misleading terms such as "village," "homemade," "traditional," "farm," and "100%" on milk and dairy products has been banned.

According to a report by Mehmet Hanifi Gülel from Dünya newspaper, companies and brands are being prevented from creating a "village" or "farm" perception by using misleading labels that do not match the actual content of their products.

Furthermore, the term "milk" cannot be used for beverages produced from plant-based sources.

For example, beverages made from plant-based products such as soy, almond, or oat cannot be labeled as "milk"; instead, the term "beverage" will be used. According to the Turkish Food Codex, "milk" is accepted as a definition applicable only to cow, sheep, goat, and buffalo milk.
