Turkish football experienced a major shock with the betting and match-fixing investigations that left their mark on 2025.

The betting scandal, in which the names of many people, especially referees and football players, were mentioned, deepened further with the prosecutor's investigation.

While 2025 passed with scandals, the statements made by Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu provided remarkable clues about 2026.

Sabah newspaper sports columnist Murat Özbostan evaluated the developments that could occur in the football world by recalling Hacıosmanoğlu's words.

Özbostan used the following expressions in his column in Sabah:

“Turkish sports had a successful year in 2025. Historic successes were achieved, especially in individual branches and national teams. On the football front, Galatasaray's leadership was at the forefront, while basketball was crowned with Fenerbahçe Beko's EuroLeague championship and the A National Men's Basketball Team's EuroBasket silver medal. However, the event that left its mark on the final days of the year was the betting investigation in football.”

In his article, Özbostan also touched upon the effects of the betting investigation on Turkish football. It is stated that the investigation could extend to technical directors and that this situation could create a "tsunami effect."

TFF President Hacıosmanoğlu had previously warned in his statements, saying, "It is the turn of technical directors, coaches, agents, and club presidents."
