Competition between Adobe and Sora heats up: Adobe has opened its free version to everyone!

Adobe has released Generate Video, an AI-powered video creation tool developed to compete with OpenAI’s Sora, in a public beta version. Accessible via the Firefly web application, this new tool allows users to generate 5-second, 1080p (24fps) resolution videos using only text or image prompts.

THE AI WAVE IN VIDEO PRODUCTION

Adobe began testing generative video tools last year with the announcement of the Firefly Video Model. Having first released the Generative Extend tool for Premiere Pro in beta, the company is now taking an ambitious step in the competition against giants like OpenAI, Google, and ByteDance by opening Generate Video to a wider audience.

Thanks to the Text-to-Video and Image-to-Video features offered by Generate Video, users can create short videos containing various cinematic effects using a specific text prompt or a reference image. The AI also offers the ability to customize details such as camera angle, movement, and shot distance.

However, the video length offered by Adobe is currently limited to a maximum of 5 seconds. While this duration remains shorter compared to OpenAI’s Sora model, which can produce videos up to 20 seconds long, Adobe states that it will soon offer 4K video production as well as faster, albeit lower-resolution, models.

As generative AI-based video production becomes increasingly widespread, one of the biggest debates in this field concerns copyright infringement and commercial use risks.

Adobe emphasizes that its Firefly models are trained only on publicly available and licensed content, ensuring that users can use these videos for commercial purposes without facing copyright issues.

The company describes the Generate Video tool as "production-ready," targeting professional content creators as well.

The Firefly web application has also been updated with a new user interface. Users will now be able to edit their AI-powered content more easily by providing direct integration with Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Express.

Additionally, Adobe is offering new features in beta, such as the audio and video translation tool Translate Audio and Video and the 3D sketch-based reference creation tool Scene to Image. However, these are not free.

TWO NEW SUBSCRIPTION PLANS IN FIREFLY

Adobe has also announced two new subscription plans for Firefly users:

Firefly Standard: Offers 2,000 credits for $9.99 per month, which can be used to generate 20 five-second 1080p videos.

Firefly Pro: Provides 7,000 credits for $29.99 per month, allowing for the production of 70 five-second 1080p videos. Both plans include unlimited Firefly image and vector generation services.
