Crack in pro-government media: Yeni Şafak's focus shifts from Öcalan to PKK
Yeni Şafak, a newspaper owned by the Albayrak Group known for its proximity to the government, continues to draw attention with its headlines and front-page stories following the process initiated by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's remarks on Öcalan.
MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli shook hands with DEM Party members at the opening of the new legislative year, sparking questions about whether a "new solution process" had begun.
Following the debates, Bahçeli made another statement on Tuesday, October 22, that would change the course of politics.
Stating that he would "speak plainly," Bahçeli addressed PKK leader Öcalan.
Bahçeli also said that if the PKK lays down its arms, Öcalan could be granted the 'Right to Hope'.
There was a flood of reactions to Bahçeli, who stated that PKK leader Öcalan could call on the PKK to lay down its arms from the parliamentary podium.
While pro-government media described the event as "historic," many columnists were also seen supporting the process.
The pro-government newspaper Yeni Şafak drew attention with its headline on Wednesday, October 23: "Öcalan's place is İmralı."
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş also pointed to the headline, saying, "Interesting things are happening at the top."
Following the TUSAŞ attack, Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced that the attackers were members of the PKK.
