In certain regions of the U.S. state of Massachusetts, measures have begun to be implemented against the Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus, which is transmitted to humans by mosquitoes.

According to a report by the Washington Post, Robbie Goldstein, an official from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, has confirmed the first case seen in the state this year.

Eastern equine encephalitis virus has been detected in a person in their 80s in the Worcester area, west of Boston.

Goldstein stated that emergency measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the virus and invited the public to join the fight against the disease.

In this context, state official Ashley Randle announced that mosquito spraying will be carried out in the Plymouth and Worcester regions throughout the week.

Randle advised local residents to use mosquito repellent, wear clothing that covers their skin, and avoid outdoor activities during evening hours when mosquitoes are most active.

Authorities have announced that 10 areas in the Plymouth region are under "high or critical risk."

Residents of the region have been urged to reconsider outdoor activities planned, particularly between the evening hours and dawn. In the Oxford area, outdoor activities scheduled for the evening hours have been banned.

Eastern equine encephalitis virus is a rare and fatal disease transmitted to humans through mosquitoes.

According to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 30 percent of those who contract this disease lose their lives, while those who survive may face various neurological problems.

Symptoms of the disease include high fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, and drowsiness.

There is currently no effective treatment method for Eastern equine encephalitis.
