Decision reached regarding Alec Baldwin, who caused the cinematographer's death on the set of the film Rust
A decision has been reached regarding Alec Baldwin, who caused the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins after the gun he was using on the set of the film Rust discharged.
Actor Alec Baldwin caused the death of 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with a firearm he used during the filming of the movie "Rust" in New Mexico on October 21, 2021, while 48-year-old director Joel Souza was also wounded in the shoulder in the same incident.
In his first interview after the incident, Baldwin stated that he did not know there was a live round in the gun, that he felt deep sadness and regret over what happened, but that he did not feel guilty.
On January 19, 2023, a separate case was filed against Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed, who was responsible for the weapons on the film set, on charges of "involuntary manslaughter" due to the fatal accident.
Alec Baldwin appeared in court in the U.S. state of New Mexico.
Baldwin was also accompanied by his wife and sister.
In the live-streamed hearing, the prosecution stated that Baldwin was guilty and had intentionally fired the weapon multiple times during the filming.
The defense side, meanwhile, denied the accusations.
The famous actor's lawyer stated that the Santa Fe police had collected bullets that should have been used as evidence in the case, but did not list them in the investigation file and did not share them with the defense attorneys.
After hearing from the parties, the judge then announced the verdict.
The charges against the famous actor, who was being tried on a charge of involuntary manslaughter, have been dropped.
After the hearing, Baldwin, his wife, and his brother could not hold back their tears.
The famous actor, who did not make a statement to journalists, left the courthouse.
