The desert dust coming from the West African country of Mali is expected to affect all of Turkey throughout the week.
The General Directorate of Meteorology has called on citizens who will be outdoors during this period of rising temperatures to be cautious.
The dust transport, which negatively affects air quality, will reduce visibility in many regions.
MASK WARNING ISSUED
Experts emphasized that the passage of desert dust could pose serious health risks.
Individuals with asthma and respiratory conditions are advised to use masks when going outside. It was stated that one should avoid staying outdoors, especially during hours when the dust concentration is high.
MUDDY RAIN WARNING FOR ISTANBUL
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) announced that the city will experience a cloudy sky this week with temperatures ranging between 18-23°C.
According to AKOM's statement, it is estimated that “as of Friday, intermittent showers and thunderstorms may occur, and that winds from the southwest (Lodos) are bringing African-origin desert dust with them, which may result in muddy rainfall.”
