Christopher Nolan’s new film ‘The Odyssey’ will utilize new IMAX film technology and will be a legendary action epic filmed around the world. The film will bring Homer's epic to IMAX screens for the first time and will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026.

WHAT IS THE FILM ABOUT?

Homer's ancient Greek epic, the Odyssey, covers the journey of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, back to his home following the Trojan War in an epic narrative. This immortal work explores universal themes such as heroism, loyalty, intelligence, and the human struggle against divine will. The journey is filled with unforgettable characters such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, the enchanting Sirens, and the witch goddess Circe. Each obstacle tests Odysseus' perseverance and cunning. The story reaches an emotional climax when, after a long and perilous journey, Odysseus is reunited with his loyal wife Penelope and his son Telemachus.

Nolan has previously been interested in period films.
