Details of the new era for international departure fees have been announced!
As of January 1, the use of physical "departure stamps" for international travel will come to an end. According to the communiqué prepared by the Revenue Administration, the implementation details for the international departure fee, which was increased to 500 Turkish Liras in August, have also been clarified.
The draft communiqué prepared by the Revenue Administration (GİB) has clarified how the international departure fee will be implemented.
The international departure fee, which was raised to 500 liras in August, will remain at the same amount for the first 10 days of 2025. However, the departure stamp must be purchased by the end of December 31, 2024.
Starting from January 11, the international departure fee will be applied as 710 liras.
According to the draft, the fee amount valid on the date of departure for citizens of the Republic of Turkey will be paid. According to the law, the fee amount will be increased each year based on the revaluation rate.
How much is the international departure fee?
According to the report by Hürriyet, an example was provided in the draft communiqué regarding the matter. Mr. Ahmet, who will travel abroad on January 3, 2025, paid his international departure fee through the Digital Tax Office at the rate of 500 liras, which was valid on December 31, 2024. When Mr. Ahmet travels abroad by the end of the 10th day of January, he will not need to pay an additional fee for this departure. If Mr. Ahmet, who is set to travel abroad on January 3, 2025, wishes to pay the international departure fee on January 2, 2025, he will be required to pay the fee amount valid for the year 2025. If Mr. Ahmet travels abroad on January 11, 2025, instead of January 3, 2025, he will in any case be required to pay the fee amount determined for the year 2025.
How long is the international departure stamp valid?
As of January 1, 2025, the method of paying the fee via "international departure stamps" will be abolished.
However, international departure stamps purchased at the 500 Turkish lira rate valid as of the end of 2024 will remain valid until January 10.
