DNA found in report on Narin Güran murder: The mystery of the blanket is unveiled

Results have been released regarding the samples sent to the Van Gendarmerie Criminal Laboratory. Additionally, a DNA sample determined to belong to Narin was found on a seized child's blanket.

The results regarding the samples sent to the Van Gendarmerie Criminal Laboratory as part of the investigation into the death of Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21 in Tavşantepe village in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır and whose body was found on September 8 in the Eğertutmaz stream, 2 kilometers from the village, have been completed.

According to a report by Özgür Cebe from Sözcü; while a forensic expert report from TÜBİTAK is awaited regarding footage showing two other individuals at the scene in the stream bed at the same time as Nevzat Bahtiyar, the confessor who buried the young girl on the day of the murder, the report received from Van did not yield results that would guide the investigation or help clarify the mysterious murder regarding the identity of the killer or killers.

It was stated that the examination methods used included blood and semen detection, DNA isolation, DNA quantification, and DNA typing. The report noted that 16 different samples taken from the vehicle with license plate 47 KF 388 belonging to uncle Salim Güran and 5 other vehicles with different license plates were subjected to examination.

It was stated that samples taken from the rear trunk upper right section of the vehicle belonging to uncle Salim, the swab taken from the exterior upper right roof, the wooden stick taken from the side of the front left seat, 3 pieces of seat covers from the front left seat, and 2 pieces of seat covers from the rear seat were examined.

It was emphasized that hair samples were examined from the left rear floor mat of the other 4 vehicles with different license plates, as well as a swab sample taken from the mouth of a 0.5-liter plastic water bottle found in the trunk of the same vehicle, samples taken from the sun visor in the driver's area, samples taken from around the vehicle's ventilation grille, samples taken from the right rear door threshold, a swab taken from the trunk upholstery, a hair sample and a piece of cotton taken from the left rear floor mat, a piece of upholstery belonging to the trunk, and hair samples taken from the compartment between the seat and the window.

The report prepared regarding the 16 samples collected was listed in 11 points. It was reported that no blood samples were found in the examination conducted on samples taken from 5 vehicles, including the vehicle belonging to the uncle, Salim, which were evaluated for the potential presence of biological material.

It was noted that no semen sample was found in stain number 1, which was taken from the seat cover on the back part of the vehicle belonging to the uncle, Salim, and that a DNA profile belonging to an individual with a male genotype was obtained from stain number 1 on the left front seat back cover of the same vehicle. It was pointed out that the stain on the right front seat back cover of the same vehicle contained a DNA profile belonging to an individual with a female genotype.

The report emphasized that DNA findings in the form of a mixture were also encountered during the examination of samples taken from different parts of the vehicle.

The report highlights that a search was conducted between the crime scene DNA profiles of unidentified individuals held by the Gendarmerie Criminal Department, the Ankara, Istanbul, and Van Gendarmerie Regional Criminal Laboratory Directorates, and the Biological Examination Laboratory, as well as the DNA profiles of individuals kept in the laboratory in accordance with Article 14/2 of the Regulation on Physical Examination, Genetic Examinations, and Physical Identification, which are located at the General Directorate of Security's Criminal Police Laboratories Biological Examinations Branch Directorate Laboratory, and that no matching profiles were found.

The report noted that, apart from the samples containing DNA profiles, other samples sent for laboratory examination—such as hair, buccal swabs, and other specimens—did not yield DNA profiles as they did not respond to DNA analysis efforts. It was reported that DNA profiles were obtained from stain samples numbered 1 and 2 taken from Narin's pink t-shirt, from a stain sample numbered 2 taken from a black t-shirt, and from a stain sample numbered 2 taken from a child's blanket.

DNA FINDINGS ON T-SHIRT AND BLANKET

The report stated that in the detailed examination conducted on Narin's t-shirt, a child's blanket, a jersey, a pillowcase, a child's dress, a hair clip, a pair of children's shoes, and various hair samples, a DNA profile belonging to an individual with a female genotype was detected on the t-shirt and the blanket. It was stated that when this female profile was compared with the oral swab and blood samples taken from Narin's mother, Yüksel, and father, Arif, the female DNA profile on the blanket and t-shirt matched those of Arif and Yüksel, confirming that the female profile belonged to Narin.

While no DNA findings belonging to other individuals besides Narin were obtained from the samples sent to Van, all eyes have turned to the expert report regarding the analysis of the footage sent to TÜBİTAK.
