Dollar/TRY forecast from German giant Commerzbank: TRY will weaken
Commerzbank has announced its year-end dollar/TRY forecast. The bank's currency analyst Tatha Ghose points to the rise in inflation expectations and predicts that the Turkish Lira will lose further value.
Commerzbank predicts that the Turkish Lira will weaken further due to rising inflation expectations and a worsening public perception of the economy.
Commerzbank currency analyst Tatha Ghose, citing the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey's latest survey of market participants, emphasized that inflation expectations have risen.
Ghose stated that in order to bring inflation under control in Turkey, fiscal policy must accept a prolonged economic downturn.
Stating that without such an economic slowdown, interest rate hikes or other regulatory reforms by the Central Bank would remain meaningless, the analyst argued that these policies alone would not be sufficient.
Ghose stated that he expects the dollar/TL exchange rate to rise from its current level of 33.9181 to the 35 TL level by the end of the year.
