WHERE DID THE FIRE START?

A major wildfire that broke out about 40 miles west of Pacific Palisades has scorched more than 2,900 acres since Tuesday morning. The fire has caused the destruction of many buildings and led to serious damage.

HOW DID THE FIRE START?

According to officials, the fire started near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive and grew rapidly. The out-of-control fire burned homes, and many people left quickly by car and on foot.

SCHOOLS CANCELED

Late Tuesday evening, Pasadena Unified School District Superintendent Elizabeth Blanco announced that all schools would be closed on Wednesday.

INTENSIVE MEASURES BEING TAKEN

An evacuation center has been established at the Westwood Recreation Center located at 1350 S. Sepulveda Blvd in Los Angeles and at the Pasadena Convention Center.

Late Tuesday, Pasadena Vice Mayor Steve Madison announced in a post on X that the Rose Bowl Stadium parking lot would be closed to the public to serve as a command center for the Pasadena Fire and Police Departments.

BIDEN ISSUES STATEMENT

In a statement, U.S. President Joe Biden said:

"I am being briefed regularly on the wildfires in West Los Angeles. My team and I are in contact with state and local officials, and I have offered all federal assistance needed to suppress the terrible Pacific Palisades fire. Earlier this evening, FEMA approved a Fire Management Assistance Grant to support the affected areas and help the state of California reimburse emergency firefighting costs. My administration will do everything in its power to support the response. I urge residents in Pacific Palisades and the surrounding areas of Los Angeles to remain vigilant and listen to local officials."
