'Fool Case' poll: What do AKP and MHP voters say about a political ban for İmamoğlu?

In the case opened against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on the grounds that he called YSK members 'fools', the Istanbul 7th Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced İmamoğlu to 2 years, 7 months, and 15 days in prison, along with a 4-year political ban.

As eyes turn to the Court of Appeal, journalist İsmail Saymaz shared Yöneylem Research's study on how the İmamoğlu case is perceived by society and its potential consequences in his column on Halk TV.

Saymaz stated, "AK Party and MHP voters are also against the political ban on İmamoğlu."

"61 percent of voters see the sentence to be handed down as a decision by Erdoğan and the government.

This rate reaches 94.2 percent among DEM Party voters, 92 percent among CHP voters, 90.5 percent among İYİ Party voters, and 82.9 percent among Zafer Party voters.

37.1 percent think the sentence will be upheld.

'THE JUDGE WAS CHANGED TO HAND DOWN A SENTENCE'

76.7 percent believe that the judge was changed to appoint another judge who was certain to sentence İmamoğlu.

Those who hold this view exceed 90 percent among CHP, DEM, and Zafer Party voters, 80 percent among İYİ Party voters, 70 percent among New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi) voters, and 60 percent among MHP voters.

'POLITICAL BAN IS WRONG'

74.9 percent find the political ban to be imposed on İmamoğlu to be very wrong. This rate is 57.9 percent among AK Party voters and 55.6 percent among MHP voters.

NOT LEGAL, BUT POLITICAL

72 percent argue that the sentence given to İmamoğlu is not legal, but political. 66.3 percent say the case was opened to prevent İmamoğlu's presidential candidacy. While 65 percent say "it was opened to end İmamoğlu's political life," 60.2 percent view it as a 'revenge case'.

77.6 percent say, "Erdoğan would not receive a sentence if he used the same expression."

UNREST WILL INCREASE, THE ECONOMY WILL BE NEGATIVELY AFFECTED...

69.5 percent state that if the political ban is upheld, distrust in law and justice will increase.

65.1 percent think that unrest will increase.

55.1 percent note that Turkey's reputation will be damaged.

55 percent emphasize that it will become more difficult to engage in opposition.

51.5 percent argue that the economy will be negatively affected.
