Güran family lawyers: We have concluded that the statements given by Nevzat Bahtiyar do not align with the truth
A new development has occurred in the case regarding the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who was killed in Diyarbakır. In a statement released by the Güran family lawyers, it was stated, "We have concluded that the statements given by Nevzat Bahtiyar do not align with the truth."
The lawyers for the family of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who was murdered in Diyarbakır, have submitted a report prepared by a forensic informatics engineer regarding the mobile phone images of 4 defendants to the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Justice. Lawyer Yılmaz Demiroğlu stated, "According to the results we have obtained and our interpretations, we have reached the conclusion that the statements given by Nevzat Bahtiyar do not align with the truth and that his defense has collapsed."
The lawyers for the family of Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21, 2024, in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of the central Bağlar district and whose lifeless body was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream on September 8, 2024, held a press conference regarding the report prepared by a forensic informatics engineer who examined the mobile phone images of the defendants—mother Yüksel, brother Enes, uncle Salim Güran, and Nevzat Bahtiyar—from the day of the incident.
Speaking about the report, which includes the findings of the forensic informatics engineer as well as evaluations regarding the narrowed base station study in the case file and the report from the National Criminal Bureau, lawyer Mahir Akbilek said that the appellate process regarding the local court's decision in the Narin Güran murder case is ongoing.
Expressing that their expectation is for the incident to be clarified through evidence, Akbilek said, "The work we carried out to ensure that the data obtained from the images of the defendants' mobile phones is accessed and converted into understandable text and graphics by expert witnesses in the field, with the aim of helping to reach the truth, has been completed."
Lawyer Yılmaz Demiroğlu stated that an expert witness examination was conducted on the defendants' phone image records with the aim of reaching the truth and justice, and that a report was prepared.
Demiroğlu said, "According to the results we have obtained and our interpretations, we have reached the conclusion that the statements given by Nevzat Bahtiyar do not align with the truth and that his defense has collapsed. We obtained an expert report from one of Turkey's most competent experts regarding the narrowed base station report, which the court of first instance partially based its decision on. The report concluded that a pinpoint location is not possible, that there could be a margin of error between 500 meters and 2 kilometers even in instantaneous live tracking, and that location determination made in this way is not possible. We will fight to clarify the incident," he said.
Demiroğlu stated that they would evaluate the detention of their clients and file an application for their release.
In the Narin Güran murder case, the court panel decided at the hearing on December 28, 2024, to sentence the detained defendants, mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran, to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing of a child in complicity," and sentenced Nevzat Bahtiyar, who confessed to hiding Narin's lifeless body in the Eğertutmaz Stream, to 4 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering criminal evidence," and ruled that their detention should continue.
