Halal Accreditation Agency announces: 'No halal certificate was issued to Köfteci Yusuf'

The Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK) stated that Köfteci Yusuf, which appeared on the list of foods endangering health following analyses conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, did not possess any certificate issued under HAK accreditation.

In the statement made by the agency, it was emphasized that HAK does not directly issue halal certificates for products or services, but only audits and accredits domestic and foreign certification bodies.

The statement noted that "pork DNA detection" was made in samples taken by the Ministry from two different service points in Ankara. It was stated that the business did not have a certificate issued under HAK accreditation during the period when these analyses were performed.

It was announced that the business in question only received a halal certificate from a domestic certification body on August 15, 2024, for specific products produced at its main production center, and that this certificate covers minced meat, prepared meat and meat mixtures, bone broth, and soup.

Restaurants Are Not Within the Scope of the Halal Certificate It was stated that the DNA detection, which is the subject of the list of foods endangering health, occurred while products brought from the center were being prepared for consumption at the two restaurants.

The statement said, "The restaurants where the business provides dining services and which are the subject of the Ministry's list fall outside the scope of the halal certificate issued under HAK accreditation."

In light of these developments, it was stated that HAK has requested an official defense from the body that issued the certificate and has initiated an on-site audit process regarding the relevant organization.

The agency stated that it will continue to meticulously evaluate domestic and foreign accreditation applications within the framework of international standards and will continue to regularly monitor the organizations it has accredited.
