He had switched from CHP to AKP: Allegations of 'Join the AKP or lose your job' pressure from Umut Yılmaz

While Şehitkamil Mayor Umut Yılmaz's resignation from the CHP to join the AKP has shaken the political agenda, controversies within the municipality are also growing.

It was alleged that Yılmaz made the party switch due to an ongoing investigation against him, but it was also claimed that a "decision of non-prosecution" had been issued in the file in question.

PRESSURE TO "RESIGN FROM CHP"

Following Yılmaz's transition to the AKP, allegations have emerged that political pressure is being applied to municipal employees. According to a report by Sözcü, Yusuf Koska, who has worked as a driver in the Cleaning Affairs Directorate for 2.5 years, announced that he was fired because he did not resign from the CHP.

Koska described what he experienced with the following words:

"Last month, Mayor Umut Yılmaz sent me a message through an intermediary. He wanted me and my family to resign from the CHP. I did not accept this. A month passed, and I was fired. I believe this decision is linked to this incident because there were no issues regarding my work."

"HE ALSO PRESSURED US TO CHANGE UNIONS"

Stating that not only he but other employees were also subjected to similar pressure, Koska noted the following:

"There are 5-10 other people in the same situation as me. After the Mayor switched to the AKP, he also pressured us to change unions. He wanted us to resign from DİSK and join HAK-İŞ. He applied this pressure personally."

Koska also stated that his dismissal was unlawful and continued his words as follows:

"I was currently on annual leave. Legally, it is not possible to fire an employee before their annual leave ends. They said they would send the justification via a notary. There is no official justification."
