Hero prosecutor Yavuz Engin, who dismantled the 'newborn gang', speaks for the first time

Public Prosecutor Yavuz Engin, who dismantled the "newborn gang" responsible for the deaths of dozens of babies in Istanbul, has spoken for the first time.

Stating that he risked his life in this difficult struggle, Engin said, "We have carried out many major operations like this one. However, this one became a public agenda item because it hit the media. Positions and titles are not important. If the state has given a task, I will do it to the best of my ability. I wear this Public Prosecutor's uniform without being influenced by anyone, without fearing anyone, and by risking death."

Mustafa Kemal Zengin, seen as the leader of the newborn gang, had visited Prosecutor Engin in his office to threaten him and had wanted to take a photo with him.

Engin, however, turned the situation around and drew attention by appearing in the same frame as Zengin during his arrest.

MESSAGES OF SUPPORT POUR IN FROM FAMILIES

Families who were victims of the gang did not spare their support for Prosecutor Engin. Countless messages of thanks were published for Engin.

The families stated that justice was served thanks to Prosecutor Engin and expressed their gratitude to him.

"THE KIND WISHES OF THE FAMILIES ARE THE GREATEST HONOR FOR ME"

Speaking for the first time following the developments, Prosecutor Engin said, "The kind wishes of the families are the greatest honor for me. The criminals who walked into the wolf's trap and fell into our hands are now in the hands of Turkish justice. Those who challenge the 2,400-year-old Turkish state tradition will regret it. They will wish they had never met us. Those who supported me and those who did not will always be in my memory."

"IF THE STATE HAS GIVEN A TASK, I WILL DO IT TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY"

Stating that he was simply doing his duty, Prosecutor Engin said in his statement to the Yeni Asır newspaper, "We have carried out many major operations like this one. However, this one became a public agenda item because it hit the media. I am a Prosecutor of the Republic who does his duty without fearing anyone.

Positions and titles are not important. If the state has given a task, I will do it to the best of my ability. I wear this Public Prosecutor's uniform without being influenced by anyone, without fearing anyone, and by risking death. Just as we dismantled a gang today, we will continue our duty without stopping in the same way," he stated.

PROSECUTOR ENGİN HAS MADE A NAME FOR HIMSELF RECENTLY

Born in Germany and having completed his education in Turkey, Prosecutor Engin began his professional life after graduating from law school.

After serving for many years in Saruhanlı, Manisa, Engin was appointed to the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and has made a name for himself with the investigations he has conducted recently.

In particular, the successful operation he conducted against the organized crime group called the "Newborn Gang" caused a great stir in Turkey.
