Highly controversial Assad claim from Abdülkadir Selvi: Did he provide secret information to Israel?
Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi wrote that following HTS's capture of Damascus, Bashar al-Assad was rejected by Iran and the UAE and sought refuge in Russia. Selvi also made a claim regarding Assad and Israel.
Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi wrote about the behind-the-scenes details of Bashar al-Assad's flight from the country after Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) captured the Syrian capital, Damascus, on the morning of December 7-8.
Stating that Assad first wanted to go to Iran, Selvi wrote that Iran rejected this request. Expressing that negotiations were also held with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) but no positive result was obtained, Selvi said, "Upon this, Assad's only option became Russia."
DID ASSAD GIVE SECRET INFORMATION TO ISRAEL?
Selvi noted that the precision operations carried out by the Israeli army after the overthrow of the Assad regime were remarkable.
According to information he obtained from a trusted source, he wrote that during his escape, Assad provided Israel with documents containing the locations of the Syrian army's weapons depots, missile launchers, and fighter jets.
Selvi stated, "It is said that Assad provided this information so as not to be struck by Israel. Looking at Israel's operations, it is seen that this claim carries weight."
FIRST STATEMENT FROM ASSAD
Conveying that Assad said in his statement from Moscow that his immediate evacuation to Russia from the Hmeimim Air Base was requested on Sunday, December 8, Selvi stated that this escape took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Selvi said, "There is other information regarding the details of the escape and especially Israel's role. I will write about it when the time comes."
