Housing sales rise: Prices fall
According to TUIK data, housing sales across Turkey increased in August. At the same time, a decrease was observed in housing prices on a real basis.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced housing sales statistics for August.
According to the data, the number of house sales across Turkey increased by 9.9 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 134 thousand 155.
This was the highest sales figure seen in 2024.
In August, the decline in mortgage-backed housing sales continued under the impact of high interest rates.
Mortgaged housing sales across Turkey decreased by 17.1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, falling to 13 thousand 574.
The share of mortgaged sales within total housing sales stood at 10.1 percent. In the January-August period, mortgaged housing sales fell by 49.8 percent to 76 thousand 485.
Housing prices saw an 11.6 percent decline in real terms in August. The Residential Property Price Index (RPPI) increased by 3.6 percent compared to the previous month and by 34.3 percent on an annual basis.
