How much is the 2025 fitra, what is it, and when is it given?

What is fitra?

Fitra, also known as sadaqat al-fitr, is an act of worship specific to Ramadan. The most important difference between it and zakat is that zakat can be given throughout the 12 months of the year, whereas fitra is specific to the month of Ramadan.

Who can give fitra?

Those who possess 80.18 grams of gold or property of equivalent value (currently 272 thousand liras) are eligible to give fitra.

Who is fitra given to?

It should primarily be given to the poor and needy. Additionally, it can be given to those in debt, travelers in need, and other individuals in need. However, it cannot be given to first-degree relatives or one's spouse.

What is the fitra amount for 2025?

The Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) has set the fitra amount for 2025 at 180 liras per person. A charitable person gives this money to the person in need and those whom the person in need is responsible for supporting.

For example, if the person in need has one other person they are responsible for supporting, the benefactor pays 360 liras to this person. 180 liras is the lower limit. A person may give more if they wish.

How is fitra given?

Nowadays, it is mostly given as cash. However, it can also be given in the form of staple food items such as wheat, barley, raisins, or dates.

When is fitra given?

It is given during the final days of the month of Ramadan. However, it can also be given on the day of Eid al-Fitr.
