WHAT IS MOTOR VEHICLE TAX (MTV)?

Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV) is a tax collected in Turkey from owners of motor land vehicles in two installments, every year in January and July. Collected based on the Motor Vehicle Tax Law No. 197, this tax varies according to the characteristics of the vehicle.

Factors affecting the tax amount include the type of vehicle (automobile, motorcycle, bus, etc.), engine cylinder volume, the age of the vehicle, and the date of first registration. Especially for automobiles, engine volume (cc) and the age of the vehicle are among the most important criteria in calculating the MTV.

HOW MUCH ARE THE MTV FEES IN THE NEW YEAR?

According to the decision published in the Official Gazette, the hike rate to be applied to taxes, fees, and fines in 2025 has been finalized at 43.93 percent. Based on this rate, the new fees for MTV payments have been determined.

NEW FEES FOR VEHICLES WITH AN ENGINE VOLUME OF 1300 CC AND BELOW

Owners of new vehicles with an engine cylinder volume of 1300 cc and below will have to pay a higher MTV (Motor Vehicle Tax) in 2025. The lowest MTV amount for vehicles in this segment has increased from 3,359 TL to 4,835 TL.

NEW FEES FOR VEHICLES WITH AN ENGINE VOLUME OF 1301 - 1600 CC

Owners of new automobiles in the 1301-1600 cc range, which is one of the most commonly used engine volumes, are also facing a significant tax increase. The lowest MTV amount for vehicles with this engine volume has been raised from 5,851 TL to 8,421 TL.

AUTOMOBILE INSPECTION FEES HAVE ALSO INCREASED

Another item concerning automobile owners is the increase in vehicle inspection fees. In 2025, the inspection fee applied to automobiles has increased from 1,821 TL to 2,621 TL.
