How to make the intention (niyyah) for Ramadan?
It is essential to make the intention (niyyah) before fasting during the month of Ramadan. How is the intention made before fasting? We have explained it briefly.
The month of Ramadan is a blessed month in the Islamic religion during which the act of fasting is performed. Fasting requires abstaining from eating, drinking, and other acts that invalidate the fast from the time of imsak (dawn) until the time of iftar (sunset). However, it is essential to make an intention (niyyah) for the fast to be valid.
The intention for the Ramadan fast must be made before the time of imsak. Apart from this, there are no strict rules regarding how the intention is made.
To make the intention for the Ramadan fast, it is sufficient to sincerely decide to fast. Although it is recommended to express the intention verbally, it is not mandatory. However, it is essential that the person consciously intends to fast.
The intention can be as follows:
"I intend to perform the fast."
The intention can also be made in a more detailed manner:
"I intend to perform the Ramadan fast for the sake of Allah."
These words will be sufficient to make the intention.
