Influencer Kerimcan Durmaz arrested!

Influencer Kerimcan Durmaz has been arrested as part of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

An investigation was launched into social media influencer Kerimcan Durmaz on allegations of violating the “Law on the Regulation of Betting and Games of Chance in Football and Other Sports Competitions” numbered 7258.

Durmaz, who was taken into custody yesterday (January 7), was referred to court this morning with a request for arrest and was subsequently jailed.

Following the footage, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had launched an investigation into Durmaz. The statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is as follows:

“It has been determined that actions based on illegal betting activities, in addition to the high amount of financial loss they cause to the country's economy, also cause significant harm to social order, particularly due to their nature of encouraging easy money among young people. In this respect, it is inevitable to combat illegal betting and gambling in line with the reality that they act as digital narcotics. It has been determined that the person known as Kerimcan Durmaz, who is among the individuals referred to as ‘high-follower social media users’ in many different categories such as sports, beauty, travel, fashion, technology, health, or entertainment on the internet and who have an influence on society due to their recognition, has been intensively carrying out activities that encourage and promote illegal betting through actions such as placing advertisements in videos and images published on social media platforms accessible to everyone. Upon this determination, an investigation was launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the aforementioned person on the allegation of the crime of violating Law No. 7258, known in society as ‘illegal betting,’ and the person in question was taken into custody on 07/01/2024.
