Investigation into South Korean President Yoon for "treason"!

According to a report by Yonhap (South Korean News Agency), the Rebuilding Korea Party, which is on the opposition side, and a group of 59 activists filed two separate complaints against Yoon on charges of "treason."

"'TREASON' INVESTIGATION INTO THE PRESIDENT"

Evaluating the complaints, the police announced that they have opened an investigation into Yoon on charges of "committing treason by declaring martial law."

"INVESTIGATION ALSO INCLUDES FIGURES WHO RESIGNED AFTER MARTIAL LAW"

In the complaints, in addition to Yoon, former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, who resigned after the lifting of martial law, Joint Chiefs of Staff General Park An-su, who was declared martial law commander, and Interior Minister Lee Sang-min were accused of "treason and other related charges" due to their roles in the declaration and lifting of martial law.

"TRAVEL BAN FOR FORMER DEFENSE MINISTER"

Meanwhile, the prosecutor's office has imposed a travel ban on former Defense Minister Kim due to the investigation against him.

Kim, who suggested the declaration of martial law to Yoon, stated yesterday that he took full responsibility, saying, "The soldiers who performed their duties regarding martial law received all instructions from the minister," and reported that he had informed Yoon of his intention to resign.

President Yoon accepted Minister Kim's resignation this morning.

WHY WAS MARTIAL LAW DECLARED?

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law on December 3, citing the opposition's involvement in "anti-state activities."

Following this decision, the Ministry of Defense instructed commanders in the army to hold a meeting and called for them to be on alert.

Soldiers tasked with implementing martial law entered the National Assembly.

The motion to lift the martial law decision, submitted during an emergency session in the parliament, was accepted with the votes of 190 lawmakers.

"BECAME VOID WITH THE VOTE"

The Office of the National Assembly Speaker announced that martial law became "void" following the vote.

Taking a step back after the vote in parliament, Yoon convened the council of ministers and announced that he had ended martial law following the cabinet's approval.
