Is Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat in custody? Özgür Çelik explains the latest situation

An investigation into 'tender corruption' has been launched in Istanbul involving 47 people, including CHP Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat. Arrest warrants have been issued for all 47 individuals as part of the investigation.

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik provided the latest update during a live broadcast with İsmail Küçükkaya on Halk TV, stating that a search was conducted at the home of Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat.

'RIZA AKPOLAT'S HOME WAS SEARCHED'

Özgür Çelik used the following expressions:

"A dawn raid, again at 04:30 in the morning, they go to the Beşiktaş Mayor's house. To his residence in Istanbul. His mother is at home, they are waiting at the door as of 04:30 in the morning, and a search is conducted at his home at 5 in the morning. Then a search is conducted at the municipal building. There are some detentions. We don't know what it is either. We don't know what it is, or on what grounds a sudden search is being conducted, but there is one thing we do know, and that is this: we evaluate this as another dawn raid, another operation aimed at casting a shadow over the reputation of a Mayor in Istanbul and an operation aimed at weakening the public perception of Turkey's leading party. The situation is like this in broad strokes, we are following the process. We are in constant communication with our Chairman. We have been in phone traffic with our Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu since 05:30 in the morning."

IS RIZA AKPOLAT IN CUSTODY?

Özgür Çelik gave the following response to İsmail Küçükkaya's question regarding whether Akpolat is in custody:

"Akpolat is not currently in custody; I received information that there are police officers at the door of the place where he is, but he is not currently in custody, though there are others who are in custody. There is information circulating that there is an arrest warrant, but since there is no very clear information, I am not making a comment on this matter at the moment."
