Istanbul to be covered in white! Warning issued for 5 districts
Adil Tek, a meteorological engineer at the Kandilli Observatory Meteorology Laboratory, issued warnings regarding the expected snowfall in Istanbul. Tek stated, "There may be places in Istanbul where snow depth will be between 5 and 30 centimeters. In locations such as Çamlıca and Karlıtepe, snow depth could reach 30 centimeters."
Experts are issuing consecutive warnings regarding a cold air wave coming from over the Black Sea. Evaluations have come from Adil Tek, a meteorological engineer at the Kandilli Observatory Meteorology Laboratory, regarding the snowfall expected to be effective in Istanbul for 4 days.
Stating that the precipitation system is coming from the north, Tek said that the newly arriving air mass is colder than the air mass from 10 days ago. Tek expressed that the cold will begin to be felt more starting from Wednesday.
'IT WILL BE EFFECTIVE ON THE ANATOLIAN SIDE FIRST'
Explaining that the snowfall will enter Istanbul on Thursday, Tek said, "Thursday is the day when the cold mass is most intense. Snowfall will be effective in Istanbul on Friday and Saturday. It will decrease in intensity on Sunday and leave Istanbul on Monday."
Underlining that the snowfall will be effective everywhere in Istanbul, Tek used the expressions, "The snowfall will be effective on the Anatolian Side first. On Friday, all of Istanbul will receive snow equally. The snowfall will also be effective on the night connecting Friday to Saturday."
Dr. Güven Özdemir, a faculty member and meteorological engineer at Istanbul Aydın University, also stated that snowfall is expected in all parts of the city.
Reporting that strong cold air of Arctic origin, supported by Siberia, is expected to spread from the Central Black Sea and be effective within the country, Özdemir noted that air temperatures will drop noticeably.
Explaining that rainy weather will continue in Istanbul on Wednesday and that temperatures could then drop to levels where snow can fall, Özdemir stated that sleet will be effective in Istanbul and the coastal regions of the Black Sea starting from Wednesday evening.
Expressing that they expect snowfall in Istanbul on Thursday along with strong winds, Özdemir said, "The snowfall will increase its intensity even more on Friday in Istanbul. Cold weather and snowfall will continue on Saturday and Sunday."
Reporting that they expect icing and frost events to occur as temperatures drop, Özdemir noted the following:
"There may be an average of 5 to 10 centimeters of snow in coastal areas. We expect it to be higher in high-altitude areas. We estimate that the snowfall will be particularly effective in the northern parts of the city. We expect more snow accumulation in Başakşehir, Arnavutköy, Sarıyer, Beykoz, and Şile, as well as in Çamlıca, Aydos, and Kayışdağı. There will be heavy snowfall in Istanbul with strong cold air of polar origin. The system is coming as a whole over the Black Sea. This system is fed by an Arctic cold air mass. Deep cold air will be effective in Istanbul. While there is a high probability that this situation will cause continuous snowfall and, from time to time, blizzards due to the effect of strong winds, it is possible that schools may be closed and matches to be played in various parts of our country may be postponed due to poor weather conditions."
