Kaya Çilingiroğlu in legal dispute with landlord... Electricity and water cut off: 'No water for 2 months'
Kaya Çilingiroğlu, who came into conflict with his landlord over urban transformation, resisted eviction demands. Subsequently, Çilingiroğlu's electricity and water were cut off.
The eviction tension between famous sports commentator and businessman Kaya Çilingiroğlu and Numan C., the owner of the house he rents in Etiler, has been taken to court. In the process that began with the landlord asking Çilingiroğlu to vacate the house, claiming the building would undergo urban transformation, the court decided that Çilingiroğlu should vacate the property. However, Çilingiroğlu did not recognize the decision and appealed to a higher court.
HE SAID "VACATE" AND CUT OFF WATER AND ELECTRICITY
The eviction process progressed not only through legal channels but also through physical sanctions. Landlord Numan C. requested that Çilingiroğlu vacate his apartment in July 2024, stating that the building would undergo reinforcement work. In response to this request, Çilingiroğlu asked the landlord for official documentation but received no answer. Following this, the building's electricity and water connections were cut off. This situation affected not only Çilingiroğlu but all residents of the building. While many left their homes, Çilingiroğlu became the only person remaining in the building.
OBTAINED AN INJUNCTION FROM THE COURT
Çilingiroğlu applied to the Civil Court of Peace for the reconnection of electricity and water, and for the continuation of building services (elevator, hydrophore, cleaning). The court issued an injunction for the restoration of these services. However, according to Çilingiroğlu's claim, this decision was not implemented either.
ELECTRICITY CUT-OFF TAKEN TO COURT AGAIN
Landlord Numan C. this time filed a new lawsuit for the disconnection of electricity in Çilingiroğlu's apartment and for the eviction of the unit. In the case heard at the Istanbul Civil Court of Peace, the panel approved the eviction and the electricity cut-off. However, the decision was appealed by Çilingiroğlu to a higher court. The process is ongoing in the appellate court.
2 MILLION TL CLAIM
Allegations have also surfaced that Çilingiroğlu demanded 2 million TL from the landlord to move out, citing moving costs and damages. No clear statement regarding this figure has been made by either party.
Kaya Çilingiroğlu used harsh language in his public statement regarding the events:
“The matter has been taken to the judiciary. The landlord cut off the electricity and water. He shut down the elevator. I haven't had water for two months; what does it mean to cut off water in this century? On top of that, I have an injunction from the court, and they aren't implementing it either. If they are right, let them go to the judiciary. As far as I know, if you are a victim, you go to law enforcement. You don't go to a journalist. My advice to them is to find themselves a good lawyer.”
