WHAT HAPPENED?

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had launched an investigation following a criminal complaint by the Inspection Board of the General Directorate of Foundations, alleging that the Yunus Emre Foundation had been defrauded through fake invoices obtained from shell companies.

Within the scope of the investigation, detention warrants were issued for 15 people, 11 of whom were apprehended.

It was revealed that after the embezzlement, which reached 400 million liras, former President Şeref Ateş had fled to Germany, and it was learned that the name of Ali Özgündüz, a 24th Term Istanbul Deputy from the CHP who served as an opposition representative at the foundation, was also mentioned in the investigation. It was stated that Özgündüz had participated in many overseas trips with the fugitive president Şeref Ateş.

Within the scope of the investigation, it is alleged that the suspects embezzled foundation resources by issuing fake invoices.
