A new wave of operations was carried out this morning as part of the betting investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

Within the scope of the large-scale operation, 46 suspects were detained, including Fenerbahçe's Mert Hakan Yandaş, Galatasaray's Metehan Baltacı, and top-tier referee Zorbay Küçük. It was determined that the footballers and executives had been placing bets.

Within the framework of the investigation, it emerged that the footballers and executives were placing bets on matches through legal betting sites.

Specifically, it was stated that Galatasaray's Metehan Baltacı placed bets on his own team's match and that Fenerbahçe's Mert Hakan Yandaş placed bets through someone else. Findings were also made regarding referee Zorbay Küçük's involvement with betting.

SECOND WAVE OPERATION

The betting scandal turned into a second wave of operations as part of the investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. In the operation, in addition to the footballers previously accused of betting, executives and referees were also detained.

46 suspects were detained in simultaneous raids carried out by the Istanbul Police Department. Among them are footballers from Süper Lig clubs, former referees, and sports commentators.

Police teams participating in the operation also carried out raids on the suspects' addresses in various provinces.

Metehan Baltacı (Galatasaray): It was determined that he placed bets on his own team's match.

Mert Hakan Yandaş (Fenerbahçe): It was determined that he placed bets through someone else.

Zorbay Küçük (Referee): The referee announced to be associated with betting.

Tolga Kalender (Bandırmaspor), Erhan Çelenk (Serikspor): Efforts for their detention are ongoing.

As a result of a previous betting investigation initiated by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), Galatasaray's Metehan Baltacı was given a 9-month ban from football. This penalty was the first sanction imposed on footballers involved in betting incidents. Now, new penalties are expected to be applied within the scope of the investigation.

OTHER SUSPECTS DETERMINED TO BE ABROAD

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that 5 suspects involved in the operation are abroad. It was reported that efforts to apprehend the other suspects are continuing and that the investigation will be expanded.
